Diamondback Rattlesnake Facts

In Arizona, rattlesnakes are very common, especially if you live close to the desert.  Here are some facts that you need to know about Diamondback Rattlesnakes.

They are venomous and their venom is hemotoxic. The venom attacks tissue cells and creates necrosis and destroys viable cells.  It prevents clotting and promotes hemorrhaging around the affected area.

An Eastern Diamondback has the longest fangs of any rattlesnake species.

Diamondback populations has been steadily declining. There are areas that host rattlesnake roundups---this is where large numbers of the snakes are hunted down and killed.  Despite them slowly disappearing, there is no law protesting the rattlesnake.  Since 1996 there has been over 200,000 pounds of rattlesnakes killed in these roundups.

Diamondbacks often live in the burrow of an animal that have kicked out.  If it is cold for a long period of time, the rattlesnake will hibernate.

Most of their life is spent living on the ground, but when the need presents itself, the diamondback snake can climb textured, vertical surfaces like a tree trunk.  They are good swimmers and have been known to populate islands off the eastern coast of the US. Arizona Phoenix Best Pest Control Company

Rattlesnake meat is prized by people in certain areas of the country and is served broiled or slow roasted to prevent it from drying out.

There are so many people out there who want to know how to kill a Diamondback Rattlesnake.  But the thing is, you don’t have to.  The best way to get rid of a diamondback is to leave it alone.  You can use a trap to catch them, and that is often the best way to remove them.  Arizona Phoenix Best Pest Control Company
